SNG wins new grant to improve community safety in Hythe

SNG (Sovereign Network Group) customers in Hythe, Hampshire are set to benefit from a series of community activities aimed at improving community safety. The activities are thanks to SNG securing a new £17,000 grant from the Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire & Isle of Wight.

The funding will deliver a number of activities across the Knightstone Grange estate in Hythe aimed at improving community cohesion, creating a better living environment, increasing the feeling of safety, reducing anti-social behaviour and providing direct support to families.

The project will be delivered by the SNG localities team and alongside local partners that include youth organisation the Handy Trust, parenting support group Family Matters, Itchen College and Hythe parish council anti-social behaviour community officers.

Activities will include community engagement listening events, a community clean-up day, installation of CCTV, regularly detached youth work, parenting support, regularly foot patrols by the ASCO officers, installation of a community notice board and grounds maintenance.

As part of the funding, SNG is holding a Knightstone Grange Community Day on 29 October at Knightstone Grange, Hythe, Southampton, SO45 5LR between 12 PM and 3PM. This will include a community picnic and a range of fun activities for all ages.

Toby Eaglen, Community Investment and Partnership Lead for the area at SNG said: “This funding from the Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire & Isle of Wight, alongside our partnership working with local organisations, will make a real difference to people’s lives in Knightstone Grange. The work is being led by people with local experience, who know best what will improve Knightstone Grange so it is a great place to live and enables the community to thrive.”

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, Donna Jones, said: “Anti-social behaviour is one of my top priorities as it blights so many people’s lives. Earlier this year, I announced a half a million pound boost from my ASB Fund for intervention projects and activities across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. I am really pleased to be supporting the Sovereign Network Group as it enables residents and families to develop and flourish in a safer community.”
